Background of the Study
The role of geopolitical identity in education sector reforms cannot be overstated, particularly in Nigeria, where regional, ethnic, and political considerations often shape policy implementation. Kontagora Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State is an example of a region where geopolitical identities—based on ethnicity, religion, and political affiliations—affect the scope and success of education reforms. In the past, disparities in educational access and quality have often mirrored these regional divisions, with certain groups benefiting more than others due to political influence and ethnic considerations (Ahmed & Dada, 2024). Recent education sector reforms in Kontagora aim to address these inequalities, but the question remains as to whether these reforms are influenced by, or are attempting to overcome, the challenges posed by the region’s complex geopolitical identity.
